This viral photo quickly had the keyboard warriors out in full force. The photo shows Stephen Spielberg on the set of Jurassic Park posing with what appears to be a dead dinosaur.
Jay Branscomb, a bit of an Internet funny man, posted the photo to his Facebook page with the caption “Disgraceful photo of recreational hunter happily posing next to a triceratops he just slaughtered. Please share so the world can name and shame this despicable man.”
Jay was trying to be funny, hoping to get a few likes. We’re all guilty if this now and again, like this article if you agree.
Anyway, instead of seeing the humour in Jay’s joke, many people instantly assumed that Spielberg had somehow travelled back in time, killed a dinosaur, and then posed gloatingly beside his kill.
Sub plot: Stephen Spielberg was involved in the Back To The Future films, maybe we’re the foolish ones in all of this?
Now, that we’ve covered our backs on that one, let’s take a look at one of the rants from those who were offended.
“He’s a digesting inhumane p***k. I’d love to see these hunters be stopped..“
“I’m going to boycott all of his movies until he stops this mindless slaughter of defenseless animals. this is an absolute OUTRAGE! i can’t believe my eyes.“
“Steven Spielberg, I’m disappointed in you. I’m not watching any of your movies again ANIMAL KILLER.“
“I don’t care who he is he should not have shot that animal.”
The photo quickly racked up over 5,000 comments and 30,000 shares. We wonder, if the last Triceratops to grace our planet some 66 million years ago knew that their species would one day be a viral sensation.
Common sense prevailed, and those that had been so quick to lambast the director caught up with what the joke really was.
Jay didn’t leave it there. He responded to all the attention surrounding his photo of Spielberg with another one.
“Folks, we need your help identifying the vicious shark-killer shown posing with his illegal prey. Sharks are essential to the ecosystem and their waters are protected off the coast of California. If you have any knowledge of this fiend’s identity or whereabouts, please contact authorities immediately.”
The people of the Internet, being a lot more cautious, cottoned on to this one immediately.
