Wolves are known to live in packs but bears usually fly solo. When wildlife photographer Lassi Rautiainen stumbled across this unlikely pair in northern Finland, he knew he was witnessing beautiful and rare phenomenon: A lone female grey wolf living alongside a huge male brown bear.
Lassi spent 10 days watching them and witnessed the young bear and wolf meet up and spend time together.
As well as hanging out like old pals catching up
They shared their kills too
This kind of behavior is said to be extremely rare from predators of different species.
They ignored the rules of nature
The wolf even seemed to be accepted by other bears too.
“I think that perhaps they were both alone and they were young and a bit unsure of how to survive alone”, Lassi was quoted as saying. ”It seems to me that they feel safe being together”.
It’s certainly not a combination you would fancy your chances against, although having said that they do appear a lot friendlier than the stereotypical wolf and bear we might think of.
