A New York City judge has compared Rihanna’s stalker to Mark Chapman, the man that killed John Lennon. In a court hearing on Friday he ordered 54-year-old Kevin McGlynn to stay away from Rihanna’s home after he was caught “lurking” around her Manhattan apartment.
Judge Marrazzo said McGlynn “wrote a series of notes to the singer that made references to murder and sexual assault. He also accused Rihanna and other artists of using his material in their songs.” The judge suggested that McGlynn is a “ticking time bomb who is wholly fixated on [Rihanna] and poses a direct threat of serious physical harm or death to her and anyone around her.”
In September, McGlynn was found unfit to stand trial on stalking charges. He was committed to a psychiatric hospital but later petitioned for release.
The comparison between Rihanna’s situation and John Lennon’s must be unnerving for the singer, considering the tragic outcome on that occasion. Thankfully this mans threat appears to have been realised, and hopefully she will be safeguarded from any danger.
John Lennon was shot outside the Dakota apartment building in New York in 1980. This is a video of an interview with John Lennon’s murderer, David Chapman, in which he talks about why he did it.
