The head honchos at ITV have confirmed that Coronation Street star Craig Charles, 49, will be the second celebrity to leave the jungle in 24 hours. Following the tragic news of his brothers death, an ITV spokesperson has confirmed that Craig will be leaving this morning [Thursday] .
“Craig was told the sad news earlier today. He was devastated and decided to leave straight away, but did stop to say his goodbyes to his fellow celebrities.”
They went on to say that “He was a great part of the show and we are sorry to see him leave but completely respect his wishes. He is expected to fly home tomorrow.”
It’s been revealed that the TV bosses waited until Thursday morning in Australian time, Wednesday evening our time, to break the news – because of the time difference. A source revealed to the mirror: ‘We took the decision not to shock Craig and wake him in middle of the night and will inform him of the sad news when he wakes up.’
Craig’s brother, Dean, is believed to have died from a heart attack on Tuesday evening, though this is uncofirmed. When speaking to The Sun of his tragic passing, his ex-wife said ‘It’s a shock. He was always fit and healthy. Craig will have to leave the jungle after this.’
